If your stuck for a couple of gift ideas for a friend, relative or partner(.....or even yourself!) here are a couple of things that have caught my eye in the last few weeks: Christmas gifts for work, rest or play!

I was given this as a birthday present. Great for idle moments packed with history and origins for every phrase and saying you can think of. Thousands of them. So if you've ever been told to "Pull your finger out" and "Go with the flow" or get "Left in the lurch"  "On your tod", or worse still "sent to Coventry" then this could be the book for you.

This one is on the Curzon Christmas list. My brother has one and its a great gadget for the house. Prints great quality photo prints direct from your memory card - you can adjust, crop, print contact sheets. An easy way to get digi pics off the camera and on to the wall, fridge door or wherever else you fancy. With digital and phone cameras the joy of photography today is its immediacy. This bit of kit takes it a step further so you can pack friends and relatives off with a memory of your time together....instantly!

Courtesy of some friends at Lovefilm I was lucky enough to go to the premiere earlier this year of State of Play starring Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren. A good thriller with Crowe beefing up to play an unattractive (in all sorts of ways) journalist with a heart and Ben Affleck actually turning in a credible performance. A good watch!
